It could've been alot easier to say "Shao Kahn must win" as that's the plot twist at the end of MK9 but even then, it's still kind of vague but I think it would be alot better and not as cryptic. I want to defend Raiden as everyone especially in MK11 shits on him for whatever reason.
He fails to save Bi-Han, gets Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang) turned into a cyborg, gets Kitana captured, Kung Lao is killed, fails to see to it that Shao Kahn is actually dead, gets basically everyone killed in MK by consulting with the Elder Gods resulting in Liu Kang losing faith in him, and kills Liu Kang in the end. I mean he wins but he also doesn't.win? Lol. With the tournament playing out like in the first MK game, Raiden, who is given visions of what is to come tries his best to save the future by altering the past. But Raiden gets the last laugh and actually sends a message back in time to his past self with the words: "He must win!". Shao Kahn gets Blaze's power, beats the snot out of Raiden, and is going to go all Darkseid on everyone's ass. So.We all know what happens at the beginning of MK9. (Will talk about MKX and 11 some other time). I won't necessarily talk about Old Timeline Raiden as I never played those games growing up (Deception, Deadly Alliance, Armageddon, etc.) I will instead be focusing on the New Timeline Raiden from MK9. Ever since I was a kid playing MK2 for the first time it was a franchise that I always loved even the Injustice games even though I really suck at fighting games.
Wham Line: Raiden concludes the second chapter by lying that Kotal is the one who kidnapped Fujin, Kuai Liang, and Sonya.I love Mortal Kombat. At the end of the same chapter, he frames Kotal for kidnapping Fujin, Kuai Liang, and Sonya. Wham Episode: Raiden invades Outworld, forcing Kotal Kahn to invoke Mortal Kombat. Rain and Ruby chew out Tanya for her two-faced nature and leave her to be arrested by Kotal like she had intended to do to them. Kick the Son of a Bitch: Raiden very much enjoys torturing and beheading Shinnok. Rain also chew her out by reminding her that he has always been more practical than her and is thus a safer bet for the Edenian Rebels than Tanya. Ruby retorts that Rain at least does not ever deny his crimes and has never lied to her since they formed an alliance. Hypocrite: Tanya tries to convince Ruby to join her by reminding her of all of Rains crimes. Rain when he realizes Raiden is attacking Outworld and will likely target him for his role in stealing Shinnoks amulet. Kotal Kahn when Raiden invades Outworld. They try to escape, but Raiden reveals himself and easily subdues them. Oh, Crap!: Sonya, Fujin, and Kuai Liang when they find Shinnoks headless body and instantly realize what has happened to Raiden. Mileena seems to be this to Tanya, as she goes silent when Rain reminds her that her deception of Mileena is no better than his own of Kitana in the past. The Lost Lenore: Jade is this to Kotal. Light Is Not Good: Although Raiden has been corrupted, he does not look nor sound like Dark Raiden. He later frames Kotal for their abduction. I Have You Now, My Pretty: Raiden captures Fujin, Sonya, and Kuai Liang he promises to take good care of them. He Who Fights Monsters: The prologue references the Nietzsche quote, which focuses on Raidens new mindset following his corruption. FaceHeel Turn: By purifying the Jinsei, Raiden absorbed Shinnoks dark magik into himself, resulting in him becoming corrupted. Evil Laugh: Raiden cackles at the start of his invasion of Outworld. Rain has no issue acknowledging his crimes and has been completely honest with their people since the start of their alliance with Mileena, hence why Ruby and the other Edenian Rebels choose to stick with him and leave Tanya to be arrested by Kotal Kahn. Even Evil Has Standards: Rain freely admits to being just as treacherous and selfish as Tanya, who always tries to justify her actions and garner sympathy. Defiant to the End: Kotal Kahn refuses to grovel before Raiden and invokes Mortal Kombat to halt the thunder god's assault on Outworld. Deadpan Snarker: Ruby has a very sharp tongue, especially around Rain he admits to being amused by her barbs on the rare occasion when they arent directed at him. Rain knows that Raiden will likely target him soon due to him being responsible for Mileena, and later Kotal, stealing Shinnoks amulet.
Darkest Hour: Kotal Kahn has no other choice than invoke Mortal Kombat to prevent Raiden from claiming dominion over Outworld.Curb-Stomp Battle: Raiden almost immediately defeats Kotal Kahn and his forces, to the point that the emperor muses that it might as well not have been a real battle.
